Assistant Estimator

The Company

We are working with one of the larger Regional Civil Engineering Contractors who have an excellent reputation in the North West and are in the middle of a period of sustained growth.
They carry out a variety of civil engineering schemes encompassing highways, bridges, general infrastructure works, public realm works, groundworks and utilities.
The company have a healthy pipeline of work secured via a number of major local authority frameworks as well as repeat business from a number of major private clients.

The Role

They are now keen to recruit an Assistant Estimator to join their small regional pre-construction team.

Working closely with work winning colleagues you will be responsible for helping to prepare detailed estimates from first principles within agreed time constraints either independently on smaller value projects or working with a more experienced colleague on larger/more technically complex projects.

Typical duties will include;
• Examine incoming tenders, providing initial estimate and review contractual specifications
• Monitor the marketplace regarding inflation, trends and statistics and report your findings
• Liaise with Quantity Surveyors and the Procurement teams regarding procurement trends
• Attend tender launch meetings to review the scheme challenges, win themes and opportunities
• Presentation of tenders at adjudication meetings to senior management outlining risks and opportunities
• Transfer project information to the delivery team to ensure effective handover
• Promote an excellent health and safety culture
• Obtain feedback on tenders and report back at internal reviews
• Seek opportunities for future work through existing and new relationships
• Foster partnering approach with Clients/their representatives and supply chain
• You will seek value engineering opportunities to differentiate your bid

You

To be successful in this role you will really need to have worked as a Trainee, Junior or Assistant Estimator for a Civil Engineering / Utilities contractor or subcontractor previously
It's likely you'll be IT literate ideally with experience of working with specialist estimating software
You will be based in or be able to commute to the North West daily
